This smoothie is the perfect morning pick me up to boost you into a good mood if you have woken up on the wrong side of the bed (we are all human.. it happens :P).
Loaded with antioxidants, good fats,iron, electrolytes for rehydration and my favourite ‘happy’ food… banana this is the perfect on the go breakfast.
Berries are a fantastic source of antioxidants and they are a must have in our freezer! I do buy fresh when they are in season and I can source them locally- I have grown my own in the past but I have an amazing tenancy to let plants die so frozen is always best for me :P.
Avocado is one of my favourite sources for good fats (pity chocolate can;t be classified as a good fat source!) so incorporating it into my smoothies is a great way to kickstart the metabolism in the morning. If you ever have any avo’s that are coming to the end of their days and you know you won’t eat them, half them- remove the skin and pop them in a sealed sandwich bag and into the freezer for times like this :).
As summer approaches here in Perth the heat is kicking in so it is vital to keep hydrated, my favourite way to do this is with coconut water. Loaded with electrolytes it is a fast and seriously tasty way to stay hydrated. I always add it to my breakfast smoothie to rehydrate my body after sleeping so if you haven’t tried it yet.. what are you waiting for :P. It’s hard to find a good pure coconut water, my favourite brand is Born Organic which can be found in your local IGA, I love this one as it has no added nasties- is 100% pure coconut water and it is 100% organic and it is deeelicious!
I recently read an article on bananas, showing that bananas are known to lighten your mood and release happy endorphins! Maybe that’s why I am always chirpy in the mornings… keep ’em coming!
If you want to prepare this the night before simply store it in a sealed jar in the fridge and give it a good shake before serving.
